Do functioning 5th and 6th(aux) ports effect gas mileage?
Hey, with gas prices as they are I was curious if having functional aux ports would help gas milage any.I wired mine, along with the VDI, open years ago so I could ditch the airpump and such but am thinking about fixing them so they are functional again.Whether by stock means(airpump ,etc.) or some other way.Anyway I don't want to start a war and I don't need to hear the performance pros and cons of open vs. closed because I've read most of those threads, just a discussion of how they may effect gas mileage. Personally I'm thinking maybe more low end torque equals less throttle equals better gas milage. What are your thoughts? Thanks.

you might be mashing the gas pedal less to accelerate. that could improve gas mileage.
Get an electric lumbar support pump off a thunderbird (you can get them on ebay) since hte S5's already have solenoids for the 6pi and VDI you can wire a relay for the pump up to the 6pi solenoid wire and put a tee-pipe on it so the pump runs both the VDI and the 6pi actuators.
I dunno if it would be enough pressure though. Might need 2 of those pumps.

I got to thinking. If I make mine functional I would rather do it in a way where I don't have to put the airpump back on since I took the air chamber for the exhaust air and the hose that routed to it out of the front of the car and used that space for some ducting to my intake. Also the actuators for the aux ports don't need much pressure only about 6psi I think. I just need to get off my butt and rig something up.

i would think that properly functioning aux. ports would help gas mileage; during curise they would be shut, keeping intake duration lower, and sucking in less fuel/air. part of the reason mazda made them to operate the way they do i think. i dont think the vdi would affect mileage, but i have an s4 so i dont really know on that one.
