DIY stand alone fuel management for 120US DOLLARS!?!?!

i was looking at the megasquirt ecu ( DIY fuel management for 120$) i was wondering if i could run this on my series 5 rx7 and still use the stock ECU for timing.... im not shooting for a high goal of hp... mabye 300? i just want to get rid of my MAF and something better to tune with cuz of my high comp rotor motor setup......... my questions are this

if i elimated the maf wouldnt the stock ecu go into limp mode and use different timing maps..... then it would knock everything outta wack.... like my oil metering pump..... or the ecu doesnt need a MAF input for timing and omp operation

let me know what you guys think....

and im gonna use it only for standalone FUEL management.... i know it doesnt work for ignition hence my questions...

heres there website

Me and renns have done it on series 4's, but as for the series 5, i'm in the process They'll eventually release megajolt and it'll do timing as well, can't wait!

Probably a month or so, my engine's in need of a rebuild and I won't be running the megasquirt on it until after that's completed.

One, you have to build it yourself. 2, its batch injection, not sequential. You can still set up the injectors staged, like the stock system is. Theres lots of info on this on the site, and I dont want to lead people to conclusions.

It doesn't control ignition, and you have to solder the circuit board yourself, along w/ feeding it the program, and all sorts of other fun things.

SonicRat, e-mail me @ AgeOfGlow@AOL.com w/ your membername in the subject. I'm doing the same thing, and am always up to talking to people more educated than myself in the subject.

sounds like fun...i like soldering. what do you mean by "feeding it the program" im really good with computers so i can load programs and stuff, but there is no programming involved or learning of some car computer programming language is there? if not someone point me in the right direction like a URL or contact number. Thanks a million.

I forgot his screen name here. I've been playing with his s4 basemap and pretty much running it exactly as he is, piggybacked off the stock ECU, so that it runs ignition for us. Once they get megajolt released, we won't have to worry about that. There's not really any 'programming' involved, you have to get your hands a bit dirty with setting what type of sensors/ranges they have, but that's usually about it. The rest you can do with their program MegaTune (check out the Megasquirt group on http://groups.yahoo.com)

Sounds very interesting. I'm meeting up with renns sometime in the near future so he can show me everything.

I've gotten parts off the guy in person, and he's showed me his '79 RX7, but he fails to mention this DIY MegaSquirt to me.

I met up with renns yesterday.

He has done an excellent job. I'm very surprised with just how much you can do with the little thing.

Yeah, I pretty much copied his setup, even used his config as my basemap My tII will be quite different, hopefully running off a dizzy and 100% megasquirt.
