Directions on ser 4 to ser 5 fuel rail conversion.

I did this conversion today and did not have a good time (long story which i will go into later), but here are the few directions you will need if you do this.

First i got the fuel rail from mazdaspeed (thanks) because if you didnt already know, series 4 pulsation dampers tend to fail while series 5's are built in to the fuel rail and dont fail. they tend to cause fires when they squirt fuel all over the engine bay.

tak the manifold off and sort all of the bolts accordingly. take the two out of the fuel rail and yank the hoses off of them. this is where there is a little problem. the fuel line towards the front of the car is too short for the new rail so you must get a new one and cut it to length. also the "stand" which attaches the rail to the engine is diferent on the series 5. the bolts are in the same spot but they are too long with the new rail. (you will see why when you compare them) so what i did was i took a nut that was the same thread as the bolts and put it on both of them to act as sort of a stop (you could get shorter bolts but that would be a waste of time) that is about it for the directions and the problems you might run into.

now i am gonna rant a little. when i was putting the nuts on the bolts as stops i accidentally dropped one into the intake manifold (OH $HIT!!!!) so i had to take the 5th and 6th ports off and then take the manifold off. luckily it fell into the front most intake hole and i was able to fish it out. this took forever since i had never taken the lower manifold off before and it scared the crap out of me. but i got it out safely and got the car back together ok and it runs fine and 6 hours later i started my car up this is all after i did a time test to see how fast i could get the manifold off (10 minutes)

ok i am done talking now,
Justin
