Difficult starting and Autozone parts
Difficult starting and Autozone parts
When starting my '88 rx-7, I must push on the gas pedal at precisely the right time (about 1 second after turning the key) in order to get it to run. Otherwise, the engine will fire a little bit, but not enough to keep it from stalling immediately. Then I have to remove the EGI fuse and crank the engine before I try again. I don't have much automotive experience, so I would appreciate any suggestions on how to correct the problem.
Also, I am going to need a new starter. I think Autozone has them for about $100, but I have heard their parts are crap. Any experience with their starters?

First thing I would check would be bad/incorrect sparkplugs/wires or a sensor not working.
You should not have to give it any gas unless the temp is under 30F.
I am sure the rebuilt starter would be fine, but what is the warrenty?

I put in new, correct spark plugs after I realized all four previous plugs were leading (lower) plugs, but this didn't seem to make much difference, and I don't think temperature affects it either. I'll have to check sensors. Thanks.
Auto Zone and Checkers are basically the same. I know, I work at Checkers. The starter you buy is totally dependent on how much money you want to spend. My advice? Get the lifetime warranty starter and never have to worry about buying another one..
