different types of FC CPU

i was just wondering where i could find out information on the different FC CPUs. i know the S4 and S5 CPUs were definetly different, but i think i need a replacement for mine. here in Canada, i believe our S5s came with a daytime running light (DRL) control in the CPU, instead of an auto seatbelt control. can i just buy any S5 CPU, or do i need to get a specific one with the DRL and fog light control?

There are 4 distinctly different CPUs that I have seen.

The FB series are for the S4 and the FC series are for the S5.

The FB01 (Base and mid models), and FB05 (turbos, GXL and some turbos) were found on the USA 86-88 models, while the FC01, and FC66 were found on 89-91 coupes and convertibles respectivly.

As I recall off the top of my head, the DRL were controlled by the ECU in Canada according to the shop manuals.

There's a DRL module in the CPU according to the FSM (page T32). There's an additional ground wire on the S5 ECU that I presume, when grounded, puts the ECU into "Canada" mode. I have no idea what that actually does though.

just the two guys i wanted input from.

yeah, if you look at page T-32, that chart has the DRL unit crossed out for the US. so what i'm wondering is if they are actually different?

From the picture in the FSM it looks like the DRL module is a completely separate circuit board and plug, so I presume it's just missing entirely from non-Canadian CPU's. I'm just taking an educated guess of course...

well at the very least you need to find the model number on the CPU. If it is the same as the US model, then you can get a US one.
