Hey all,

i have wanted an rx7 for a while now and i have finally found a decent cheap one. i am unsure if it is a series 4 or 5 and i am unsure of the year. from what i know it is a white savarnna GTX it is turbo, and the only other different item on it is that it has that "electric shockys". is there an easy way to tell just by looking at the car. thanks guys and sorry about the dumb question~

 

Look in the "what did my rx-7 come with" thread.

If it looks identical(bumpers, tail lights, trim, spoiler etc) to the 89 - 91 models, it is an S5.

Read the archive faq etc before posting next time please.

The most cosmetic difference between series 4's and series 5's would be the tail lights. The s4 has a "block" tailight, while the s5 has a "round" tail light. The front bumper is different as well, though I'm unsure of the specifics myself.

Also, series 5's came with track seatbelts. (I don't think all of them did, but I'm sure someone who knows better than I will come along shortly and tell you for sure.)

Series 5's also have lighter rotors with higher compression.

They also have different MAFs (or AFMs, I never can figure out what this thing is called.)

The s4 has a big block, while the s5 has a sort of cylinder.

Well I guess the cylinder thing is there... I've only worked on my s4...

But THIS is what an s4 looks like. (Again, it has an aftermarket CAI but it shows you the MAF.)



Finally, if I'm not mistaken the model "GTX" was only offered in Japan. Is this an import? EDIT: Nevermind, you're in Australia so you probably like your seat on the right side of the car. :-P

Well it is probably a japanese GT-X anyways (he is in AU), which a quick google search reveals as being S5.

 

I found out that gtx was avaliable in series 4 or 5 it was an interior pack. what dp the series 5 light look like compaired to the series 4 and are there any othere differences in the body?

 

Only the ones I listed, different bumpers, rub strips(trim strips, whatever) different skirts i think(if equipped)different lip, larger spoiler, and the S4s had the wheels that look almost exactly the same as the supra. Where the S5s came with a 5 spoke design or a mesh design.
