difference in s4 and s5 turbo rebuild kit?

im looking around at kits for a rebuild.. and it occoured to me that im not posative what series motor i have in the t2 ijust bought. i know its an s5 turbo and an s4 intake manifold. the previous owner THOUGHT it was an s5 block because it ran so strong ( back when it ran...) anywho my questiuon is this. are there any differences in s4 and s5 motors as far as internal gaskets and seals go?.. are the oil and coolant, side seals the same? so if i buy an s4 rebiold kit and it turns out its actually an s5 block.. will it really matter? and is there a way for me to externally identify the series of the motor?

thanks a lot!!

so it sounds like the rebuild kits will interchange?? and the knock sensor is an externalidentification feature it doesnt mention any difference in engine internals as far as dif sized apel seals or any other internal seals..
hmm

thanks a bunch!

Yes, the rebuild kits are almost interchangable.
The intake manifold gaskets are slightly different - this covers both the upper-to-lower and lower-to-engine.
Also minor gaskets like the OMP will be different.
If there are turbo gaskets included, the turbo-to-turbo exhaust manifold is different.

All the major internal engine seals are basically the same.

I did up an Excel file to compare the Mazda part numbers for internal engine seals.
Most of it carries over to all FC's.
There are some minor changes like thrust bearings, etc., but for the most part they are almost all identical.
Mazda parts numbers can be found from original parts fiche offered as PDF files from Mazdaformance.
