Ive been searching past forums and
my question is
Has anybody experienced NOTICABLE
detonation and the engine did not
destroy anything and ran fine for
a long time

Sure.
I did it twice due to crossed spark plug wires.
It detonated hard - hammer on metal pipe TINK.
The motor still runs.
I count this due to running brand new Mazda OEM 3-piece 2mm apex seals and a fresh rebuild.
