Dellorto carburetor 88 rx7

Arrow Dellorto carburetor 88 rx7

I bought an 88 rx7 about two weeks ago and the guy said it had some problems it has an Dellorto Carburetor when I start it up and I push the gas it cuts off but after it warms up it still cuts off when I give it gas but when I take off it's ok in first and second gear but in the thrid gear the engine hesitates. I need some help!!!!

any clue on the fuel pump? it needs to be regulated to run a carb...

Have you tried tuning it (fuel and timing)? Do you have the correct jet size? What fuel pump are you running?

I had a Dellorto on a 87 motor in my first gen...

DEFINATLY check ur fuel pressure.... It is supposed to be at 4.5psi. U need to observe the pressure guage while you are driving to make sure your regulator is working correctly and NOT losing pressure.
Your fuel pump will effect this also if it's not up to par... I used a Holley Blue with ABSOLUTLY no complaints, but a second gen comes with a in tank EFI pump. You certianly need to check what pump your car is running. A EFI pump will have way toooo much pressure and flood the carb, even with a good regulator... Pull the plugs and see if they are black or wet. If so ur running rich.
Another problem area could be your float bowl. This is where the fuel is stored so when you mash the pedal it has enough fuel at all times causing you NOT to go lean. There is a small cover on the top of the Dellorto with four screws, when you remove it you will see a float device (just like inside a toliet) when the bowl fills with fuel the float goes up and tells the carb ur full, no more gas. If the float is angled tooo low it will stop u from filling up with fuel completely in the bowl and cause you to run lean/out of fuel at wide open throttle, thus making the car lose power/sputter/break up. You have to remove the air filter and look inside the carb/horns. Bend the float up a little, put back the cover, put the key in the on position and watch for a good 30 secs.... There should be NO DRIPPING. If no dripping, shut the key and repeat the process... Keep doing this till you see the dripping and then back off a hair. You've just now set ur float to it's maxium potential.
