de-powering ps rack Q

I'm depowering my rack and when I asked my landlord for help gettin it all appart...he posed a question to me about the torsion rod inside the rack. This rod as I understand it..creates the freeplay in the wheel..He implied that this torsion would cause a sort of lag in the steering response...So im just curious if those of you who have done this mod might have seen this..or have any comment about this..My landlord suggested possibly welding it so there is no "flex"

any comments appreciated...cept the ones reflecting poorly on my intellegence

I noticed no reduction in the steering response when I did it.

i've got aome pictures to shwo what i mean

inside that hole is the center shaft that moves about 20 degrees to the left and right of center when you have the bottom of the shaft in a vice and turn the top part. so as i understand it...you will have to turn the wheel that 20 degrees before the weels actually start to turn...so I was thinking weld the center part to the outside at the 4 holes around the shaft.....any thoughts...
