Dashboard lights went out!

I started my car up today after about a week and all of a sudden while I was backing it up, I smelled something burning and noticed a little smoke coming from the back of my car and the lights in my dashboard went out but all the warning light still work and i checked all the fuses and nothing is blown. what could be the problem?

That is the tail light circuit, your tail lights are out also. That's why when the smoke came from the back of the car it killed them. Your tail light fuse is out for sure.

The tail lights are not the brake lights. The reverse lights and brake lights are one in the same but neither are the tail lights.

Well, first find out if the tails work or not and go from there. Chances are they don't but it would be nice to know either way. And are you sure the Illumination fuse is still good?

Check your headlight switch.. If it has a burnt pin it AND the switch harness are bad. [If so, BOTH must be replaced, and you should do the relay mod from Icemark] Also check your front turn signal sockets for corrosion [clean and apply dielectric grease].

The problem is in the tailight housing, most likely a corroded bulb/socket.
That's where the burning was so it's the logical first place to look.

I dont see anything wrong with the bulbs or sockets in the tail light housings except for the reverse lights have a white film on the metal part of the bulb.
