Dash lights out - not fuze! HELP!

I just pulled into a gas station 5 minutes ago - and turned off the car - when i turned it back on, and turned on my head lights i had no interior lights at all. I went and checked the fuzes, and none are out. I have no idea.

As if it wasn't bad enough having my dome lights out - now my dash lights? I can't see how fast i'm going at night....not that it's a bad thing - lol

seriously, i am at a loss - any ideas?

damn S4 electrical!

S4 Turbo II - btw

Thanks!

ERIK

No the tail/parking lights are on a different circuit.

Here you are probably, right.

Of course if ErikTheDead read the FAQ for FC sticky thread at the top of this section before posting he too would have seen that.

even if the head lights are still working?

My dash lights don't work
Did you check the dimmer control??? If you did and they still don't work the light switch connections may have burnt out. Check the back of the light switch.
Back of the light switch meaning, pull out the dash - back there?

Thanks for your input once again Icemark

yeah, the headlights are also on a different circuit.

You have to turn the switch to the headlights position for the headlights.

And please read the FAQ for FC sticky thread before posting. It covers many common questions such as the one you started this thread with.

yeah its pretty common, to have one of the three wires at the light switch fail.

The power in (which takes out the parking and dash lights) (white/green)
The dimmer out (which takes out the dash lights) (Red/green)
The Parking lights out (which takes out the parking lights) (red/Black)

Now I generally recommend that the Red/Black gets a relay to beef up the output and reduce the load on the light switch for the parking lights and power in circuits. I think there is still a thread in the 2nd gen archive on that. And of course the bulb sockets should all be clean and in decent condition. There was a thread last week with a member here that had simular problems and he posted pictures of his front bulb sockets and the whole thing was corroded and breaking apart from rust and corrosion. A classic example of what causes problems with our light switches.

The headlights are controlled by a grounding circuit so they would have nothing to do with any of those three.

And I don't rebuild other peoples headlight switches. It usually take about 3 cores to build one headlight switch, so I only sell them already rebuilt.
