Dash lights flashing on and off Help!

Got a '88 GTU at the auction last week and it runs and drives fine but the dash lights flicker on and off when you turn the headlights on. I also noticed the radio doesn't hold the stations in memory. Are these tied to a common ground? Where should I start looking first? Drove the car last night and felt like I was at a disco with the lights coming on and off. Thanks for your help in advance. Here are some pics.

probably have a blown room fuse and a failing light switch harness.

Check the back of the light switch ASAP

The fuse is located behind teh dead pedal in the drivers floorboards under teh dash. If teh cover is still on teh fuse box finding it is easy, though if not id pull each fuse and replace as necessary regardless. But I would also check teh switch as well, which requires pulling teh guage cluster surround off.
