Smile Dash Light Dimmer is broken... In half

Hey everyone! Long time reader, never poster I absolutely love this forum, it keeps me busy during work lol.

I have an odd question. Recently (within the last 2 weeks) my '86 N/A's dash light dimmer broke. It literally broke, the thing split down the middle, and now both pieces spin freely in the headlight on and off dial thing. The bummer is that now my dash lights will be on at night, and I drive over a speed bump or train track and they turn off. Which i'm sure is very bad.

This doesn't seem to be too common, from what i've seen, but has anyone heard of this before? Also, would this be something difficult to fix? I'm not too good with electrical matters, but I can plug things in lol.

Also, no, I have no clue how it happened, it just did one day when I got into my car.

And, for your viewing pleasure, a picture of my baby.

Its the little circular dial that adjusts the dimmer of the dash lights. The big one that turns the headlights on and off still works, just the little one inside.

Is that the ****? And would i replace it by unplugging it from the inside of the dash, or just pull the freakin thing out?

to replace the **** itself all you need to do is pull it out, dont even bother removing the gauge surround or switch. Its easiest to pull out both the dimmer **** and the main light **** at the same time, and they just slide in and out
