damn my beautiful car( tranny problems)
ok i know im a newbie and ive searched the forums but i can't find out about my tranny problem.
The problem is that it's stuck in reverse and i won't engage any other rear, i know some may prefer driving backwards but not me, i heard it might be a bearing or something but i need help!, thanks...dj

Ditto this reply:
Try taking out the 5th/reverse switch and with a screw driver (or 90º angle screwdriver if trans is on car) and flick the push rod towards the back (if I remember correctly). This pop it out of gear. It's happening to me right now... I can fix it, but I need to find the cause!
i'll make this another thread, but I'm thinking that it may have to do with the trans or motor mount.. maybe both. It's ony happend to me while driving slow on uneven pavement, 3 times in reverse, and once while coming to a stop and going over a 3" dip/hole. I know my trans mounts are not in the best condition so... there you go.

Since the links between the shifter and the transmission pass through a solid-mounted extension housing (ie. no outside linkages), I would not think the tranny mounts could possibly affect the shifter.
Most people do not change the shifter bushings until they are completely worn out; perhaps broken parts of bushings, or the return spring have jammed the bottom of the shifter?
I suggest you remove the shifter, and examine the bushings/mechanism inside. There is supposed to be oil in there to lubricate that lot as well. Removal of the side plate might reveal a problem, though it is very difficult to see anything with the tranny in the car.
Following this, if nothing is found, you have nothing to lose by applying force!
