Damn clutch

I was pulling in my driveway after having a new rear seal and fluid change done on my tranny. I went to put the car into 1st, and it wouldn't go. I let my foot off the clutch and the pedal stayed at the floor. I pulled it back up with my foot and it regained pressure, and the car went into gear.

I bled the clutch twice and put full synthetic fluid in it. I checked the extension housing reservoir and that was low so I filled it up with NEO. Took the car out for 2 hard drives lasting about 2 hours a piece, and experience no problem.

Tonight I start the car up and pull it out of the garage, and it won't go into first gear. I take my foot off the clutch and it only returns halfway. I press it again and it pops back up, and the car goes into gear.

What the hell is going on?

Uh, I had a full clutch replacement about 3 years ago. I have had no signs of slippage or anything though, this is the first problem I've come across. I honestly couldn't tell you on the master cylinder, but I'm pretty sure the slave was replaced then. How much is involved in rebuilding them?

Most auto parts stores have the rebuild kits, 'bout $25-30 for both. Easy enough job, just put the new seals back in in the reverse order everything came out, then bleed with new fluid

Actually I'll probably just replace them both, easier than rebuilding them. I know the Master cylinder is easy to get out, how hard is it to reach the slave?

And yes, every time I get this thing running great something else happens to it. I've had it out all weekend absolutely tearing up corners and having a blast, now it needs work again.

BTW thanks for the help Wayne, you always have good info.

You can replace if you wish, your call. I've been rebuilding mine about every year, still got the original master & slave on her, 195K on 'em, so there's nothing wrong with rebuilding 'em. Once you do it that first time, the subsequent rebuilds can be done in less than 30 minutes...

I consider the slave much easier to remove than the master (you don't have to hang upside down under the dash for the slave, lol)
