Daily Driving A T2 .. Some questions.
I have been considering a T2 after my GXL blowing. But I would daily drive it and sometimes run it at the track. Anyways, I want to know what I can do to increase life spam of the engine. I will be running basic stuff like Turbo Timer, Intake , Exhaust , Boost controller, Boost gauge, Efan (Ya I know half this has nothing to do with reliablitiy.). But I am not looking to run high on boost... Maybe stock or even lower so I can increase life of the engine. Anyways is there anything I am missing to make a "reliable" T2. Or is it even concievable ? Just to add on its a S5 with 80k miles on everything. Completly stock.
intercooler upgrade...........FMIC. Stoich(A/F) guage to make sure you don't lean out.... it has pretty decent mileage but it all depends on the previous owner......and unless he has records of everything you should assume it had mediocre care.......change the oil every 2000 miles...........you are on the right track by lowering temps with the exhaust and efan......maybe upgrade the radiator........redo all the hoses because they are old and might be brittle.

Basically do a full tune-up, then keep a VERY close eye on your coolant neck (black plastic peice that the upper radiator line runs to on the block) They tend to crack, which ruins your day right quick and in a hurry. There's not a whole lot to worry about daily driving it, just keep up on the maintance and just be sure to check it over every once in a while so you don't miss a small problem that can eventually get bigger.

im selling my T2 but its been great for often abusive daily driving. the main reason im selling is because i dont have time to fix this bastard *** constant oil leak.
But as long as you take care of the machanicals, and Rewire the fuel pump, you should be OK. For example, the other day i was about 50 miles from school and had to get to class, 90+ degrees outside, 89 octane in the tank, and i boosted pretty much half the way, average speed INCLUDING slow traffic had to be at least 80mph.
I say fuel pump rewire though because i could feel the slightest stumble during prolonged boosting and it scared the hell out of me, im 99% sure it was the fuel pump not getting enough power. BTW the temp never even touched halfway even when i got off the freeway and was in the parking lot.

Carry a basic tool kit, a fire extinguisher, jumper cables, a tow strap, & a cell phone.
If you smell a fuel leak, find & fix it before a stray spark does.
If you smell a coolant leak, find it & fix it. If you can't find it, carry a jug of coolant.
Clean or replace the fuel pickup strainer in the tank.
Get a can of spray contact cleaner. It's great for AC control sliders & switches, door lock position switches, window switches, TPS plungers, radio *****, etc.
Get a can of spray grease for the sunroof, door, hood & hatch hinges.
The water temp gauge is kind of approximate. A mechanical gauge will tell you what's really happening.
Same for the boost gauge.
I also added an Air/Fuel Ratio gauge in hopes of spotting a fuel delivery problem before it caused a ping.

I drive my haltech'd Turbonetics 60-1 turbo FC as my daily driver..
Haven't really had any problems yet that I couldn't fix within an hour or so of down time.
I agree with the MP3 player, I can't find enough songs to fill the whole CD. I have 100 songs on it now.

After driving my TII daily for about two months there a couple things I can advise. First of all, definately perform a full tune up, and check the wiring harness. Honestly if I knew what I do now I would have bought a brand new wiring harness when I bought the car. Why? Because my car was down for four months, because of wiring problems, and I wasn't about to tow it 600 miles to college. I ended up spending 1600 on a haltech and accesories. And I still having electrical issues with my driver's side harness. I would highly recomend a new harness, as well as an upgraded alternator. As for a BOV home depot works well.

The whole idea is, preventative maintence. Don't wait for **** to break, if it's getting old, replace it.
Fuel? Well, depending on the boost levels you want to run, the more boost, the more fuel (and getting it their reliably). How you going to control more fuel?
I don't know really what to say, just don't let **** break or wear out, and it'll never leave ya stranded. The only time I've been stranded was when I inadvertantly left my running/parking lights on and didn't notice (CPU was shot, replaced that and now get the reminder "dings").

not much else you can do with a 15+ year old car.. there will always be something to deal with probably.

definately run a higher octane gasoline, i'd could also recomend a turbo timer, i mean if its a daily driver then you don't want to have to sit everywhere you go and let the turbo unspool. um DONT GET RACING SEATS my car came with some corbeau buckets and they suck.
