CV boot replacemant?

one of the CV boots(the little rubber boots on the half-shafts) broke on my TII donor car. so I need to replace it. so my questions are:
anybody know how to replace the CV boots on these cars? specifically, 87' TII, the outer boot.?

also, where can I get a replacement boot? I went to NAPA, they said they couldn't find/order me a new outer boot, and there weren't any in surrounding stores or anything.

also, what do they cost?

any help is greatly appreciated.

I'll do some looking too.
You could go to the dreaded dealer if you get desperate.

If Mazda categorizes the CV Boots the same as Tie Rod Boots, than you will not be able to buy them alone. Comes complete as a assembly according to the Mazda parts guy I dealt with a while back.

Okay, I just did this. I got the boot from Checkers for about $20. That was for one inner boot.

Now the hard part. You basically have to disassemble the ENTIRE assembly in order to remove the boot and install a new one. Like I said, I did the inner one, so the outer might be slightly different. I HIGHLY recommend that you get the Chiltons manual for this, OR, get someone to write the procedure down. I would do this but my chiltons isnt handy.

okay, victoria british has them. they're $9.95 each. the only problem is I'll have to order it.

so I guess I'll check at checker( ) and mazda dealer first. it appears that the outer boot is the same for FD and FC- they have the same part number.

Now the hard part. You basically have to disassemble the ENTIRE assembly in order to remove the boot and install a new one
thats no problem, the half-shafts are already out for my TII swap

I have the haynes manual, but the instructions really suck.

do you have to completely remove the bearing in order to take apart the axle? also, can I sand blast the shaft to remove all the crap if I avoid the bearing/joint/whatever, or will that damage it in any way?

thanks for the help

The whole bearing assembly on the inner side had to come apart. Not hard to do, just a LOT of marking stuff to make sure it went back the same way. I did this with the halfshafts in place, so with them out, I am sure this is going to be quite easy.
