CA CV boot (might of misspelled it)

ok. so i lifted the car a few days ago. and i noticed that my CV BOOT was all torn up. and i was wondering what is it for and what dose it do? its under the car and the one that is torn up is the one behind the passenger where the rear wheel is. and if i do need 2 change it (if it is extremely important) what is the process of changing it. any advice will be helpful.

The CV boot keeps the CV joint grease inside and dirt outside. If you lose your grease and get dirt in there, the CV joint will wear out, start making noise, and eventually fail completely.

Yes. Replacing the boot is semi-difficult though, you have to take the whole corner of the suspension apart, pull the CV axle off the car, take apart and clean out the joint and put all new grease and a new boot. Might want to have a shop do it for you depending on your comfort level with working on cars.

are you talking about the rubber boot on the outside of the rear axel? sorry, i'm not sure exactly what you are referring to...

if so, there are 4 bolts on the diff to remove and the big *** nut (32mm) on the rear hub and it should come right out.
