You have basically defined what a "dead coil" is...

The WOF has been around for decades, long before imports started flooding in. Personally I have no problem with the inspections at all. The emphasis is on safety-related items, and they check things that you may not ever notice until it's too late. It also forces drivers to replace things like worn tires that the less intelligent amonst us would not care about until it was too late. Mods are allowed, as long as they're safe and legal.

The rules for roadworthiness and modifications are probably similar to countries like the US and Oz, it's just that the cars get checked regularly to ensure compliance instead of waiting for the cops to notice. I'd rather know my car and the other cars sharing the road with me are safe than leave it up to individuals to decide how much structural rust or tire wear is okay.

I can't be bothered explaining the physics, but I can assure you from personal experience that removing coils does stiffen the spring.

in delaware its just emissions (sniffer no visual) every 2 years, not hard to pass really. I have only had a problem with the benz but I finally passed (in may 03) but im only keeping the car for another year (at most) so im fine. But if the car is excessively loud the cops will pull you over, especially new castle county cops man they SUCK! My buddy got stopped going up a hill where no one was around (accept a cop at the top) going 42 in a 35 man talk about bullshit it was like 2 points on his license (no it wasnt a loud car it was actually a brand new toyota tacoma not modded at all). If you ever visit delaware dont speed in NCCo unless you know the roads where cops dont hide !

VW people can cut springs because they have linear rate springs. No matter where you cut them, they have the same rate. Progressive springs on the other hand, are engineered to have different spring rates as they compress, so if you cut it in the wrong place, it'll change the spring rate unpredictably.

Just get some cheap lowering springs. As for the guy who has cut springs and it feels better than Eibach or aftermarket springs, please don't mistake stiffer ride or sharper turn-in for better handling.

If that's aimed at me, I never mentioned any brands or said cut springs were better than aftermarket. I said the aftermarket springs I replaced the cut springs with felt similar. I also quite clearly said I didn't necessarily recommend cutting springs.

As for handling, I didn't mistake anything for anything. In my case, after cutting the springs, the car handled better.
