so i was out driving tonight and got on the gas and in every gear at about 5k rpm my car started cutting out...its completely stock so im not sure what is happening..it kinda freaked me out at first so i checked to see if it you do it in every gear except overdrive..but 1st-4th started cutting out at like 5k
lately my car has been kinda weird
like i took the sensor out that sits on top of the water pump to put in a aftermarket one and found out that it didnt fit so i went to put it back in and the the wire broke so i stripped it and fixed it and now my water temp gauge doesnt go above "C" at all really and after driving it a while it the idle doesnt go below 1500rpm..i dont have any idea what is going on so any input will help

by "cuts out" do you mean like it won't rev past 5,000?
or will it have a studder or rough spot going through the 5,000 mark?

my 87 had a similar problem...but very intermittent. It would only "fart" say once a week during a WOT pull....

I found the problem to be a combination of sticky injectors and a weak fuel pump...but it may be a different problem for you being that yours is far more consistently occuring than mine.........

 

Hmm.. Did you happen to look at the boost gauge when it cut out?

 

J-Rat - when mine was doing it (fuel pump and fresh inj's SEEM to stop it - ie. hasn't happened since) I didn't notice any pressure drop or spike...........but this guys problem sounds a little different.....it may be a boost issue like you say

 

ya i was only boosting 5psi and have been since i bought the car the car does have FCD so i dont know if it is a boost prob...no it wouldn't go past 5k..i was thinking week feul pump or something along the lines but not sure..ill clean my injectors out on monday but how much do you think a fuel pump will cost?
