I'm going to pay a friend to mold me a gauge holder that will cover the stock temp gauge since it's highly inaccurate. I was thinking of having it hang from the top of the surrounding plastic...would that be too fragile or what? I'll post a crude paint idea in a few..

That would probably be ok Nick. It all depends on how it's mounted. I like 5one5 Innovation's pod that covers up the idiot light cluster. But you would need to relocate at least a couple of the idiot lights due to factory wiring needs. If any of you don't know what that pod looks like you can find pictures of it in the group buy forum. I think the pictures are on page 2 or 3 of that thread.

If you're going to go through that trouble why not just make an aluminum bezel to fit over the stock 4 guages and install three 2 1/16 " guages in their place? I really don't like guage pods so I'm considering doing this myself...I'll cut out an aluminum 1/16" plate that will cover the quad-guae assembly and just leave the tach and speedo exposed...might even replace the tach since it doesn't work half the time anyway...

I'll have to see pictures of others results first..I really like the stock look...but as everyone knows the stock gauges aren't exactly accurate..

But what about your fuel gauge Makenzie? Forgive me if I'm wrong here, but I haven't seen an RX-7 in 4 months thanks to this deployment.

...wtf I can't find a goo pic of the stock gauge cluster so I settled for this. (sorry about stealin your pic)
This is the basic idea for now...just once gauge (either temp or airfuel) I hate how aluminum looks and want a sturdy clean looking install for whatever I do..so I'm not sure about blocking all the gauges with aluminum idea. Oh my friend would be doing this in carbon fiber and I'd bolt it on from the top....again like I said just an idea. I really like the stock look and the closes gauges I found to stock were defi (...I'm not paying $1000+ in guages) or the old school hks ones. I'm still using the stock oil pressure gauge and fuel gauge...jsut not boost or temp.

When it comes to my project I'm going to relocate the guage somewhere...not sure where yet...so that I can check it periodically, but basically the only thing that will remain visible in the cluster for fuel is a low-level light. I only need temp, oil, boost, tach, and a speedo.
