Custom driveshaft? what to do?

NY Custom driveshaft? what to do?

I searched but nothing came out on what im trying to do.
I'll try and make this short but i know that isn't going to happen.

Bought an 86 base with a S4 T2 engine in it that was blown. After the car sitting for 3+ years i finally got around to swapping in a 87 n/a. I got her to run but havent driven it yet.

I go to install my n/a drive shaft but it didn't mate to the rear end. Turns out this car had a full T2 drive line swap...YAY. Now i understand the difference in both drive shafts but curious if there is a way to use both the n/a and T2 shafts to custom make one to work for me? Is it possible to remove the yoke off the T2 and place onto the n/a shaft? I do understand these drive shafts have non replaceable yokes but i still feel i should be able to swap them. If not can i remove the big nut on the T2 diff and replace the plate where the drive shaft mounts with a n/a plate? If both of these arent possible them i may just have my step dad bring both drive shafts to his job and cut one end and weld it to the n/a shaft so it can mount to the T2 diff. I do understand it needs to be balanced after the cut and welds are done. Yes i know the thickness of each drive shaft is different but im not about to spend close to$300 for a stupid drive shaft! I just got a long block,clutch,tranny,header,short shifter for $350 so F the $300 drive shaft. Any help out there to make one drive shaft work for me?

hmm good luck, i know mazdatrix makes one that mates a t2 tranny to an n/a rear end but not the other way...

I suppose if you really want to do it cheap, you could weld more metal on the flange and drill it for the TII rear end. Maybe you could adapt the TII diff flange for the NA shaft by re-drilling it to the right bolt pattern.

umm if it had the full t2 driveline why not just bolt up the old transmission and have at it.

I just cut outwards towards the corners on the n/a driveshaft. But if you don't know what your doing. Just buy one. I'm running n/a engine/transmission and TII rear end. using my n/a drive shaft modified.

Because it had a blown T2 motor so i swapped in my n/a engine and transmission. Reason i dont wan't to use the T2 transmission is because i already have a new clutch on my n/a and dont want to buy a new T2 clutch, i cant find the T2 starter and the S4 T2 FW is long gone.

I think i understand what you mean. I may just do this.

Black91n/a that also sounds like worth trying.

2slow4stock i did what you did and it worked perfectly. Finally got to drive this rx7 that has been in my garage for 3 and a half years! It was reallllly easy to do and seems like its going to hold up just fine. Thanks a bunch you just saved me plenty of moeny.
