custom DP from a muffler shop
Well, I was gonna spring for a brand name downpipe (HKS) but thinking about paying $220 for a 2 foot piece of metal sounds about as fun as punching myself in the *****.
That being said, I have a very reputable muffler shop in the area, Hazel Dell Muffler for anyone from the Vancouver/Portland area, and I think I'm just gonna have them fab one up for me. It's all metal, and these guys know their ****. My main question is, what should I tell them I need? I imagine I can't just walk in there and tell em I want a downpipe for a 88 TurboII and expect them to be able to magic it up.
What are they gonna have to do to be able to make it? Think I'm going to have to leave the car there? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

A downpipe shouldn't be difficult for any competant exhaust builder. There's not much you need to tell them except size.
I'm getting a custom downpipe made next week. It'll be a little special. Watch for the post...
