Custom Cold Air?? I its been done, I need help!

Ok guys, i've seen pics on here before of custom cold air intake some of you have done. I have a friend that works at a Stainless steel manufacturing company, so i can get all the stainless done for free. I know on other cars (not Rx7's) they will cut a hole in the wheel well, or run the filter right to the grill. I would do either one, but i dont see a lot of room in the wheel well for my tb and filter, or even just the filter. And running it right down to the grill looks like it would work Sweet, i know you need to cut to make room, but im not sure where! Any help would be huge. Btw, Its an 86 Gxl Na, and i was probably going to go with 3' stainless..
thanks
-ben
i've seen a few posts of custom ones you guys have done, that go right to the front grill. im not sure what kind of performance it would add, but it looks like it would make a Sweet sound! Wooosh...

Thats why I'm undertaking this project for less than 30% of their asking price and will still look as finished as checkpoint's product.

$250 for a bent pipe and a generic filter?
They had better include a hot girl to give oral pleasure for that much, hell, a few times even
I'd give em $50 for a pipe and a generic filter.

I wondered that myself. It doesn't come with a 'generic' filter, it comes with a K&N! And adapter plate! Woo! $50 for the filter and plate, and a $200 pipe! Wow!

i'd suggest getting an aem water bypass valve, look it up on the net, or go to aem.com i'm going to get one and do the same as these guys have with the filter in front of the grill.

Oh oh! It's not *mine* It's Checkpoint Engineering, those pictures are from their website. (http://www.checkpointmotors.com I think?) I'm not sure if cutting was required for it or not, I just posted other pics of it as requested. I think it's way too overpriced for any sort of justification.

Unless the filter is completely emerged in water, its not going to suck much up at all. Plus I dont think a rotary can even hydrolock.

I'd be worried about the damn snow/water accumulating on it in Michigan and then it freezing and turning into a big ****** ice cube. That'd be no good.

In winter you can always pull the pipe off the AFM and throw the filter on the end of it. Switch it back in the summer..
