c's short shifter install HELP ASAP

c's short shifter install HELP ASAP

im trying to install it right now and i am having so much trouble trying to get the damn pivot end in the socket. is there an easy way to pop her in? thanks.

My shifter bushing (not from C's) needed to be turned down a bit to fit into the shifter block...maybe yours does too.

Also, you are moving the return spring out of the way, right?

yeah.. definately moving the spring out of the way. i been sanding it down for a bit now.. hopefully that works. thanks.

wow... i can;t believe this.. after all the work, i got it to fit but i just noticed on the manual it says FD3S... these ******* took 3months to send me this **** and didnt even send me the right part... or do they use the same part? obviously not bc the shifter does not move an inch when i have everything tightened.

Before you get all medieval on C's...
...I admit I don't know what the difference between a FC and FD shifter is, so that could in fact be the whole problem...

Does the shifter work if you loosen the three bolts on the retaining ring?

My cheap eBay Miata shifter required shimming the bushings to get the shifter ball (the big one that is cradled top and bottom) to sit properly as it wasn't making full contact with the lower bush.
I used fiber washers from Ace Hardware to raise the lower bush till the ball sat in full contact.
I then had to use two gaskets under the retaining ring to raise it enough that it didn't bind the shaft when tightened down.
Even so, I had to play with the tension on the three bolts so the unit didn't bind.

Took a bit of fiddling and after about a month I had to readjust the hold down bolts- I assume the bushes seated/wore in a bit.

All told, I spent a few hours fiddlefucking with the install but was rewarded with a very smooth and precise actuation- so much so that my mechanic commented that it was one of the best shifting FCs he'd ever tried.

I later went back and turned down the upper part of the shaft to lower the **** even more.
This resulted in throws short enough to be done with a wrist flick only, my arm stays stationary- and the effort was hardly increased at all.

Once you get your shifter working (either through replacement or tweaking), be aware that short throws really like heavy *****...helps smooth things out and reduces effort.

yeah, thats not a C's shifter. not for an FC at least....
you got boned. i got my C's last month, and its AWESOME, but, yeah, you dont have the right one.

Yep..That Piece is NOT A C'S SHIFTER!..you got the EBay Miata Shortthrow Shifter..I Have Been through so many of Those,I Honestly think they would be better for use as Tent Pegs,than a Car shifter..the Bushing on the Bottom ball(the one you circled)..take that Off and get some Sand paper,..Rub,Rub,Rub,and Sand it down to Fit the Shifter Block on the Inside of the Transmission..you Want More info you Say?..OK..I'll give you a Break!..search a Thread by KARACK..the Miata Shortthrow Write-up...ah to Hell with it..HERE! https://www.rx7club.com/showthread.php?t=726739 Good luck.STYX.

i don't believe the FD shifter will work in an FC due to the differences in shift tower height and mounting but if its a cheapo ebay one they honestly probably are all the same and it will take some shimming of the bushings correctly to keep it from binding up. for the most part remember where the notch is in the bushing vs the shifter locator pin, if the bushings aren't installed in the correct spot then the shifter WILL bind up.

on a side note, all higher quality shifters i have dealt with, none of them use a nylon bushing on the bottom such as in my writeup so it's highly likely someone scammed you and said it was a C's short shifter when in fact it is just a cheaper immitation. will probably do the job, but not as well as the better, more precisely machined units will.
