Cracked s4 manifold..How much is too much?

Ok i just took apart my turbo and noticed that the manifold and turbo housing had cracks. The manifold had a crack in the bridge between sides and in the oval openings which most people seem to port. When i took the turbo housing apart (the backside...The black half) i looked inside to see that there were cracks in the grooves within. So my question is, what is Ok to have and what is not. My father said to get it welded

Thanks for any input

Hair line cracks are common and ok... but if you can catch your finger nail on it, its probably too big. Manifolds are cheap, go buy a new one.

replacing with a s5 manifold and exhaust housing makes a signifigant difference to low end response and wastegate control. I was happy with the decision I made a while ago to go with that option, when I took it apart to fix leaks and found the cracking...

Yah. Lots of people in their search for more power take off neat little hybrids w/ the stock s5 hotside/manifold and a to4 compressor and put larger turbos on. Very straight forward swap.
