Cracked Iron Weld it?

hey guys i got my front iron back from a local shop who lapped it for my rebuild, all the others were fine. i noticed a small crack on the front iron. so i put my finger on it and pushed it a little and it just broke off. its like a 1 inch piece broke from where the coolant seal goes to keep water out of combustion chamber. so i was pissed. buttoday i thought can i just put a weld there and then get it resurfaced to it is flush with the rest of the plate. waht do you think about it?
here is a pic of where the part is broken. incase you didnt understand from my explaining.

do not put a welded iron in your car. It changes the hardness of the metal and can cause real issues.

General consensus is once the wall is so thin it starts cracking, it's replacement time. If there is still a "wall" to build up with JB or whatever, then go for it. If no wall is left- do you really want to take the chance, considering all the work you're putting into the rebuild and reinstall?
