Cracked injector gasket

Hey everyone,
I'm looking into buying a 1988 RX7 GTU and when I went to check out the car today, it was running and sounded good but I noticed that one of the injector's rubber gaskets had cracked from dry rot(sat for a few months) and was spraying fuel on the engine. Would this cause any problems with the engine? The owner is replacing the gasket now but I am hoping it won't ruin the engine.

naaaaahhhh

I can't see raw fuel laying on a hot engine and running down on the exhaust ainfold being a problem....BTW thats sarcasm

It may cause the engine to run slightly lean given the fuel is going on the engine and not in it.

It will probably cause a fire as well if you couldn't guess

The thread-starter said the owner is replacing the gasket, and fixing the leak. I think he is asking if there is any residual damage from fuel having leaked onto the engine before the gasket was replaced.

The answer to that question would most likely be "no", but take a look at the vacuum tubing, wiring, and other non-metallic pieces if you want to be sure. I expect the raw fuel evaporated quickly, before it could do any damage.

I understood that it could cause an explosion but I wasn't sure if once cleaned up, the engine will have any bad side effects. It is getting fixed either today or tomorrow and the owner will clean off the engine from the gas that escaped. Is there a special cleaning agent that should be used to make sure that no flammable gas is left?

nah, the gas'll all evaporate. There's nothing to worry about once the seal is fixed.

Excellent. Thanks for your help everyone, this is a great forum. Right now I'm driving a 1999 Nissan Altima GXE with intake/header/exhaust which is fun to drive and reliable but doesn't have much performance potential and is FWD. If this RX7 is in good enough quality(meaning the engine works pretty much), I'll definetly buy it as a project/fun car while using the altima as a daily driver. Thanks again.
