Question Couple of (stupid) questions

I recently bought a 1990 RX-7 GXL, and still need to do quite a bit of work on it to fix it up. Anyway, I had a couple of questions to ask.

One: Is it safe to put Heet in the gas tank? I ended up with a tank of bad fuel from a local gas station, and I have no clue if it will do anything to the engine or not..

Two: One of the window motors is dead, and needs replaced. I am going to order a new motor for it, but until it comes in, I am stuck with one window down. Is there a way to safely get the window up until the new motor comes in?

Thanks in advance!

looks like youll have to take off the door panel and manually raise it... not hard at all just a few screws and once you see the leverage and gears inside it youll figure out what to do

1st thing: Get manual windos.

2nd thing: Drain gas tank, us bad gas as weed killer/pesticide

3rd thing: Put good gas in tank.

^for example...

Local gas station is poorly maintained, but it's a large market name so people don't really think anything about it. Over the last 20 years or so the poorly insulated tank for the premium fuel has sweated water into the fuel. Water and gas don't mix, though, so the water caried to the bottom. One week the manager at the station neglected to get the premium tank filled. People were coming up, buying premium, and getting a 50/50, or richer, water mix.

That's one way to get bad gas.

If the gas is half water, then drain it. There is a drain plug on the bottom of the tank.

Are you sure the window motor is bad. FC'c are notorious for having bad switches. Take your switch out and check the contacts, if thats it then look into the relay mod.

Also, never get gas if you see a gas truck pumping fuel into the reseviors. It stirrs up debris from the bottom of the tank and if dust or rat **** goes into your fuel system, it will clog things.

in my cellar. nevermind the funny smell. all sales final! everything must go!

if i "knew" i got bad gas somewhere, i would try to do something about it. maybe go back, buy a few ounces and put in a container to use as evidence in court! okay, so maybe it wouldnt go that far, but bad gas? sounds like a possible lawsuit as it could highly affect a vehicle.

$2.04 today, good thing I get 19 MPH. Not only do I have a fuel filter but I have a water seperator installed as well. You can buy them at any boat store and they can adapt to any car as well.

No I did it myself. I have a friend who is a boat nut and all boats have a water seperator and filter so I tried it out on my 7 and it worked. I cut the fuel line before the filter and installed a water seperator and I can bleed out about 4 or 5 ounces of water a month. You would be surprised how much crap goes into your tank every time you fill it.

I'm kinda interested in the seperator too.. how much it cost for one of those?

And I've got a car that has been sitting for about a year and a half... I have no idea if there is gas in the tank (bought the car a month ago) but when I put my rebuild in it, I'm gonna need to find out heh. Should I drain it to be safe?

Oh and btw it's 2.50/gal premium (stupid volvo) here in CA now. **** this place.

That seems like it would be a huge restrction in your fuel system. Something that has the ability to seperate gas from water can't have great flow characteristics.

Well put it this way I don't have any water problems with my fuel system. Have you ever taken a fuel filter apart and seen all the s**t that is in them. In Florida the humidity is very high. I drive my 7 about 2 or 3 times a month so I want to make sure that there is no water in the system. With my job I travel a lot so sometimes my 7 will sit for for a while.
A regular filter will not seperate water so the added insurance for 20 bucks was worth it!

There is no more fuel restriction than a filter. I haven't noticed any thing differant. My FC is completely stock and I don't even have the 3800rpm miss. Just replaced the stock ground wire with a thicker ground wire.
