Couple of questions
Hi
Just bought an 86. Feels solid and worth the 1k. Powersteering doesnt appear to work, blower fan for heater not working, and tach not moving, although it still tells you when to shift.
Where in the car does the power steering computer live? I'd like to test it but I'll be damned if I can find it, or a diagram on the net.
Is there a link to the best method/equipment to check the compression?
Is there a way to connect a laptop to the car's cpu to get further diagnostics? Like a kit or something?
Thanks so much
J

Former Moderator. RIP Icemark.
do you even have power steering. Not all models came with it, and many people mistakenly think they have more power and better handling with it removed so its not uncommon to see people rip it out.
The power steering computer is located behind the drivers dash speaker.
You can not hook up a laptop to a stock ECU. The CPU is the body computer, the ECU is the engine computer.

I spent some time today resoldering the cpu, and decided to hunt for the power steering pump.... I have an a/c pump on the driver's side and an air pump on the pass side (was a San Diego car when it was new, in NH now). No other fluid reserviors, besides what I assume is the clutch slave and the master cylinder. So I guess I don't have it. I "think" I have a GXL and couldn't fathom the thought that the luxury model wouldn't have p/s. I thought it was standard. I tried to id the car online with the vin, but that didn't help me determin the submodel.
FC with power sunroof, and a/c.
On to the logicon since I have no fan for heat or a/c.
As for the ECU, I think the car is not fully burning fuel since the exhaust reeks of it at start, lots of white/gray smoke for a bit and it doesn't idle as smooth as it should, I was hoping to see why with that method. Any reccomendations for a non stock unit that will tell me what's going on with the car? Do you have them on your site?
As you can tell rx-7 technology is new to me.
Thanks
J
