Correct offset for 18s. Not happy with searches.

I've searched and searched, but not satisfied.
I'm looking to get 18s with aftermarket springs and GC coil-overs. (K2RD's package)

I know its a 5 x 114.3 (5x4.5) The best width to get up front would be 225 to stay safe. But everywhere i look i always get different offsets, and i don't want to order a rim to find out it won't work.

If anyone could help me with the offsets, i would greatly appricated it. I looked at some offset charts, but they don't come with directions so i don't understand it great.

If i get a 18 x 7.5 what offset?
If i get a 18 x 8 what offset?
If i get a 18 x 8.5 what offset?
If i get a 18 x 9 what offset?

Any information to help would be appricated. thanks.

It mostly will depend on what type of wheel. Do you have one in mind?

If so, I can give it a try.

Also, PM ARDT2 or whatever his name is. He seems like his stuff is usually right on.

I don't have any in mind right now. I want to look at ones i can fit on my car. Theres a lot out there i want, but not in all offsets.
So far i've seen some rx7s with 18s with 30 offset, but a lot of websites say 18s with 40 offset. I'm hoping to get some real life experience answers before i make a bad one.

Also for example: Lets say the offset is 30, could i use a spacer so that i can use a 40 offset rim?? Are spacers safe????

Thx

I'll list the offset which would place the inner rim exactly where the factory inner rim would be on a 16 x 7 40 offset:
7.5 34 offset-outer lip would be 12mm closer to fender
8.0 27 26
8.5 21 38
9.0 15 50
1mm = .039 inch .468" 12mm
1.014" 26mm
1.482" 38mm
1.950" 50mm

Sorry numbers moved around:
7.5" 34 offset- .468" closer to fender
8.0 27 offset-1.014 closer to fender
8.5 21 offset-1.482 closer to fender
9.0 15 offset-1.950 closer to fender

Best to go with narrow rim in front, to clear the fender, and a wider in rear. You'll need to recalculate the rears after deciding on the front rims. That way you can keep the outside lip pretty close, front and rear, and move the wider part to the inside on the rears.

I dont think that answered his question.

You would still need to define what wheel you are looking for. Remember, the calipers and the backspacing determine what would fit...that goes back to what wheel you are looking into.

Spacers ARE safe. As long as it is hub centric, the wheels studs are long enough, and the offset of the wheel itself is correct.

Pick a wheel..I will let you know if it will fit.

It doesn't matter what wheel he buys...Using the factory base, and 7.5" wheel with 34mm offset will all have the dimensions listed. It could be a 17"/18"/19"/20"- 34mm offset is 34mm offset

Just wanted to add that naturally you need to start with a wheel that will 'fit' a 7- eg 5 x 114.3" hub bore 59.1. If hub bore larger, adaptor would be needed to make certain wheel centered.

yes it does. If you are looking at general..."off the shelf" wheels that we see here in the states. Those are primarily for front wheel drive cars. Then you use the above calculations.

For example.
Enkei NT03
front 17x8 +32mm (max up to +3mm)
Rear 17x9 +42mm (+/-)

Here are the twisters:
Watanabe GR8
front 17x7 +30mm
rear 17x8 +33mm

Here is a good one.
Watanabe
F: RS - 8 type D 16-7.5 +32mm
R: RS - 8 typeE 16-8.5 +32mm

Now if you go to pep-boys, they would give you:
Motegi (any)
F and R: 18x7.5 +40mm

I have found some weird wheels for the FC.
I cannot remember the name, but it was test fitted.
17x8 +25mm
17x9 +30mm

Now tell me....that all is the same....

The wheel bore shouldn't determine the wheel that you have to buy. There are hub rings to adapt to ANY bore.

First thing-Buy a wheel with a hub bore <59.1, you'll never get it on the car, so it DOES make a difference!
Second-How would you know the offsets you listed would fit unless you started with a base which is the factory wheel. I was referring to the OFFSET-If offset is 40mm offset-It's the same for all wheels, whether 16/17/18/19. Naturally there are many wheels which would fit, that goes without saying----Look at Tire Rack..
