wait a second, my buddy did the same thing. RB presilencer to apex'i dual N1s. took his presilencer off because it was time for emissions, broke a stud. and from what i can tell, its a separate stud, i dont THINK its pressed in, but its possible. now, to make life so much easier for you, you will need: heavy abrasive (file, grinder, etc.), breaker bar, and the tightest setting of the vice grips you can get on the stud.

grind a nice flat spot into the stud as close to the presilencer flange as you can for the vice grips to grab onto, otherwise you will have limited success with getting the stud out. the rest should be self explanatory.
i did this a while back, but it was a very old cat delete pipe somebody had made, it was NOT easy.

I've been to rb personally and asked them, they really didn't give me a straight answer on how to fix it. The rb presilencer's stud is weird. Its the silencer, a bolt welded on, then the flange goes over the bolt and the flange is welded, weird ya? I did break the weld off of one of my rb presilencer studs and it looked like a bolt that had the head hacked off, so i went to my local nut and bolt shopped and yep same exact one, so i got it tacked at the top of the flange, put a new gasket on and new bolt and it did leak slightly but i might have not tightened it down all the way because i was to scared to break the weld off. Anyways i ditched it because i didn't like the sound to begin with and that weird combo and now i have a xr1

I have to admit that I am not familiar with the RB pre-silencer. I was speaking about how they would be made. Simple is usually cheap. Special inserting of pieces is expensive and requires engineering demands to justify it. Standards would be a stud. If they went through the trouble to weld in a trapped bolt I would have to ask why.

Of course not, you can always break the weld on the stud, fill it, drill it, tap it and put a new stud which was recommended by blue tii, try my method and try tightening it nice and firm, maybe get an exhaust shops opinion on it, who knows they might have some secret tricks up their sleeves.

It's not a casting. I have one sitting beside me now, the metal is formed around the flange (not cast into shape.)

That's what I was afraid of. It looks like you'll have to drilll out the bolt/stud and tap it for a larger bolt to make it work without cutting the presilencer open.

Let us know what RB says over the phone, stud breakage seems to be a common problem. I know I'll lube mine with antisieze from now on.
