Coolant nipple on rear iron?

I just pulled the coolant hose that goes from the top of the rear iron to the TB and there's almost nothing left of the nipple on the rear iron. It's almost completely rusted away. Is there any way to remove what's left and replace it?

I was looking at the parts diagrams and all I see in that general area is a "stud" 9985-20-822A Does anyone know if that's coolant nipple?

I doubt that mazda sells the nipple. Stud means stud...

I would cut it flush, drill it, and tap it with pipe thread and screw in a nipple fitting. I would also practice on scrap, since you can tap too far down if you've never done it before and not be able to thread in the fitting because the hole has widened too much.

If It cannot be replaced than do that ^^^^^^^^^ and yes practice first!

if that nipple rusted out that bad i would hate to see your irons coolant passages by the coolant seals.

Yeah... I bought this car out of Mississippi a couple of years ago and it looked like it had been through hell. I'm sure the PO probably ran it with straight water. Wouldn't the metal shavings from cutting and tapping threaten the integrity of some of the coolant seals?

thought about trimming whats left, sanding it, putting a copper coupler on it and another piece of copper pipe and then putting it together like that?

Perhaps just clean it up and get some pipe and connect it with a compression fitting?

I'd just sand it and use a compression fitting to couple it to another pipe.

Hell you could probably still use that pipe.

Not sure... I'm afraid what's left is mostly rust. The chunk that's missing was stuck to the inside of the hose when I removed it. I guess I'll just have to go at it with a wire brush and hope there's still enough metal to clamp a hose to.

That's not nearly as bad as you described, and looks reusable (unlike that injector clip...). The one on the back of my water pump looked like that an cleaned up fine, with plenty of solid metal remaining.

All four of the injector clips are broken and the bare copper wire for at least one of them is exposed... whoever took this apart last was a real winner. The gasket between the LIM and UIM was completely missing too.

In the pictures it looks like there is a lot of the nipple left but I'm afraid that it's mostly rust... I'll find out soon enough

Clean the surface rust off. You might be pleasantly surprised.

Replace those injector clips. They will come back to bite you in the *** if you don't.
