coolant leak/overheating problem

I searched for a 1/2 hour for someone with a problem like this but to no prevail. My 10th AE has been leaking coolant for some time now, i just fixed it. (It was the plastic piece under the coolant filler cap.)

That was yesterday, today the devilish "add coolant" buzzer was going off and was really pissing me off. I wasnt anywhere near home and tried to take it easy. Im used to the buzzer going off but today i look down and my temp was a few mm away from the H on the gauge.

It was going up and down a little, so i continued to take it easy. When i got home i had the usual cooldown session of about three minutes, when out side and there was steam on my window, my overflow bottle was empty and there was steam coming from something right next to the bottle, and it was making a buzzing/alarm sound. In the back of the motor was a hissing sound, but no steam.

Does anyone have any idea what i can do to fix this problem? Do you think it was fully overheated? What happens when it overheats? Any suggestions/answers will be greatly appreciated.

check for coolant in your oil and pressure test the system to see if you have any leaks, if you cant find anything then follow the procedures for bleeding the air out of the system and take it on a short drive to see if there is still a problem, also check to see if your electric fan is kicking on if your model has one (i own a T2 so i don't know if a n/a has an e-fan).

10th AE= TII. TII's and automatics had an electric fan. Anyways check your thermostat. One way to check is to turn up your heater when the car is warmed up. If it fluctuates or blows cold its your thermostat. And check your water pump to make sure it isn't leaking.

your heater will also blow cold if you have air pockets though...

i have the same problem.

make sure you replace the thermostat with an OEM one from mazda. Then check if you see pools of coolant around the waterpump.
