coolant hoses
i need to replace the coolant hoses on top of the engine (tb to bac etc.) and i already have the hoses. one hose i know i will need to take off the alternator to replace, but for the rear hose, do i need to take off the UIM or can i get away with leaving it on. and if i do have to take it off, do i have to replace any gaskets associated with it?
thanks

I think you can get to the one in the back, but it will be pretty hard to get to. I would recomend going ahead an pulling the upper intake off. While your in there you might as well go ahead and replace all your vacuum lines so you wont have any problems in the future. The only gasket you will need is the upper intake to the lower intake. If you change out the vacuum lines, make sure you get some high quality silicone hose. I usually get the universal starter kit at the link below:

You should replace the UIM gasket if you pull it and it's the original gasket. If you are really desperate black RTV has worked fine as a gasket replacement for the UIM. The coolant hose under the from the TB to the rear housing is near impossible to get on/off without the UIM off.

OR you could just replace the two other hoses for now, and hope the back one doesn't blow until you have a reason to actually pull the UIM off...
I think I've heard of one person on this forum who could actually get his hand back there to disconnect the hose at the rear housing nipple. It all depends on how that clamp is situated, I would think...

nope, if i replace one hose, it has to be that one, cuz its leaking. already completly drained the overflow tank once. and i cant fix it anytime soon cuz of finals coming up, so im just filling my overflow with distilled water for now, gonna flush the whole system when i replace the hoses as well
