1. My car has been leakin coolant about an inch puddle overnight. The add coolant light won't go on until i rev over 3000 on every gear and head on the freeway and driver over 65. But if i baby it, and drive 60 on the freeway, the light doesn't come on. I've added coolant and i only had to put in a little. anyone know what could be the problem. or how i could fix this?

2. Is it true if you add coolant, and there are air bubbles inside, could it damage the engine?

3. The temperature gauge doesn't work because the previous owner disconnected. How do i connect it back?

4. For some reason while in 1st or 2nd gear. if i cruise around on those gears at maybe 2000 rpm, the car gets kind of jumpy.

You probably have blown cooling o ring seals.
Do this test.
Leave the radiator cap off and start up the car cold.
Do you see bubbles, foam or milky cooling fliud?
If not then you might possibly have a leak somewhere in the cooling system.
After driving squeese the upper radiator hose a few times,do you have pressure?

If you have air bubbles in the cooling system the your boiling tempature goes down and can cause hot spots in the engine.

Also the stock tempature gauge isn't accurate and if your not running one now you don't know if your overheating your motor so why drive knowning you have cooling problems. This is a very detrimental situation for you since nobody out there really works on rotaries and you people on the islands dont have many parts.

O..did u turn on the heat before????if u didn't,,,just turn on it ...that is no coolant in the heat radiator...

i got the same problem after i changed the new radiator..didn't know what wrong..but after i use the heat..the problem is gone.

 

Don't assume something catastrophic like blown coolant o-rings without first eliminating the simple causes.

You're getting the buzzer because there are air pockets in the system created by the leak. Find and repair the leak. If you can't find it just by looking around (that much coolant leaking will leave a trail) then use a dye kit.

Only if there are massive bubbles and airlocks. Little bubbles are not going to be an issue. If you are having trouble getting rid of the air, then use your hand to cover the filling hole while you pump one of the rad hoses with you other hand. You'll find that draws coolant into the engine.

Reconnect it. Sender is located under the oil filter. The connector on the harness is a barrel type connector, and the wire is yellow/white.

Adjust TPS.

 

alright i just checked underneath my car. the leak seems to be coming from a circle under the radiator. its a koyo radiator. anyone can help?

 

Leaking drain plug perhaps?

Fix it?

Tighten it a little and see if it stops leaking. If not you will need to inspect it and determine where the leak point is, then apply a fix as appropriate.

 

this is a really stupid question. but how do you tighten it? i tried feeling it and it didnt feel like a bolt.

 

can you put the car up on jackstands??

Worst case scenario: drive it up a curb (using a driveway of course) and look to see it. best bet is to put it up on jackstands or a ramp, removing the underbelly tray and getting under there. Try not to get killed while doing it though.

 

I think at this point you need to invest in a Factory Service Manual..... this can also be found on the internet (hint in the FAQ's section of this forum)

I believe that the basics have been covered... any more help and you will need to fly Aaron to Hawaii to do the actual work

fixed my leak problem today. The screw that was pluggin it could barely keep the o ring on. So went down to napa and bought a bolt that could hold the o ring tight onto the radiator and it fixed it.

Now, lol , the add coolant light goes on and off . when im on the freeway, its always on. on the high way it goes on and off. what could i do to fix this problem?

 

You probably need to bleed the system. Instructions in the Archives.

 

is flush and bleed the same? because we flushed it. well i'll just go check it out anyways.

 

Flush and bleed are different. Flushing cleans out the crud from the system by running clean water or a cleaning solution through it, bleeding removes the air bubbles.

I flushed my coolant with hose water yesterday, and left it over night, i bought more distilled water and was wondering if i should flush it out with distilled water now before putting in my coolant
?

also since i already flushed it, i read somewhere that theres water that usually doesn't get flushed out (only replaced, about 1.5 liters) in the block, so i'm guessing i should flush it with distilled water?

 

I would say that would be overkill. You already washed it out with fresh water once. Just remember to use at least a 50/50 coolant water solution to avoid corrosion. Don't just use water.

There is a block drain plug located in the driver's side motor mount.
Pulling that will get just about everything out of the motor's passageways.

 

ok . another problem has occured with my radiator now. i just got done driving, and when i was about to head into my house. i hear this noise like some liquid is spewing. then a big puddle of water/coolant is running under my car. its coming from the bigger hose on the left side of a koyo radiator facing the engine. what could have caused this problem? is it safe to drive after putting in more coolant.

 

The problem isn't the radiator, it's probably the radiator cap or the coolant recovery tube.

 

Save yourself a lot of headaches and just replace every hose and clamp in your cooling system.
