recently the transmission on my 1988 convertible broke. it was making a really loud knocking sound and would lock. i pulled out the tranny and my question is what tranny will fit on my car? i only have about $300 i got a guy selling me a tranny and a brand new stage 3 clutch kit in the box for $300 but its from a 1988 gxl not sure if the tranny is the same as the convertible. but any tips or sugestions would help a great deal.

 

The 88 and 89 vert use a heavy duty version of the M85 tranny found on the 86-88 GXL, however any 86-91 non turbo FC tranny will fit and work.
