Convertible top replacement help

I have seached and seached unsuccessfully to locate the shop that does
RX7 convertible top replacement.

I know read about this outfit but I can't find it again. The way they
work is, you remove the top, fabric, mechanism, everything. Package it
up and UPS it them. they mount it in a shell of convertible they have
and install new fabric. They send the completed top back to you and you
just bolt it in. Violla, your done.

Does anyone know the name of this place, the phone number, or the url.

Any help world be apprecieated.

Thanks.

www.Rx7world.com has something like that.

I ended up having a local shop change my top, $1166 . They used a Robbins top that looks high quality and just like factory. Tenax fasteners were re-used. Top looks good but at the drain pockets it looks really tight and stressed. Not sure how long it will last.

$1166?? Ouch... the guy I'm possibly buying my RX-7 convertible form said he could replace the top for about $300. Might be a little more after labor... but no $1k!

With all due respect, thats a lie. He is full of **** and does not know of what he speaks.

Or a really really bad oversimplification, indicating that he is full of **** and does not know of what he speaks.

You better rethink your negotiations and plan your budget for more than $300.

You can buy an AABestco top for $300 in vinyl. But you will have to drive to California to pickit up. Ok, freight is $30.

We are up to $330 now and that top will sit in the box forever if you don't install it or pay someone to install it. Mine sat for 6 mos.

I spent over $50 in adhesives, staples, razor blades etc.

Now we are at $380.

That is the bottom, bottom line if you don't have ANY other expense and if you do it yourself.

If I were doing it for you, I would charge about $500 labor. You would be very happy with the work and the top. Problem is, you would have to wait till my vacation next winter and you would also have to fist-fight with my wife over the time (you would probably take her 2 out of 3, she isn't all that tough).

I was quoted $800 labor plus $500 for the top from a local shop that claimed expertise in tops, but had never done an RX7.

If you are handy and brave, we can walk you through it here on the forum. But there are no guarantees, you can still f it up and so can a shop that installs your top. Welcome to the world of auto restoration!

$1100 sounds like a good middle of the road price and Robbins seems to be respected quality.
