Convertible Cd player

I having problems with the original cd player wich is a pionner, I have the service manual but in order to adjust the cd player requieres tests cds made by pionner witch are expensive ,
the problem is that when i advace the track on the cd it can not find the next track and stay with the next track number flashing then the error goes so severe that the displays blank out,If I made the ff or rev go back to track 1 starts to play again track 1 with no problem, then it loose track at the minimum bump loosees track again.
I have the new belts (2) for cd loading-unloading and the one that moves the carrier but I dint replaced yet, I dont want to mess the unit , I need some advice,
Any out there knows wich other generic laser-carriage assambley works in this unit.
Thanks

I messed with the stereo in my '91 convertible. I got the Tape player to work but the radio ended up breaking and will now play 2 stations at one time. The CD play I could not fix and it will load a cd, spin it about 1 rotation then spit it out. I decided to go with an aftermarket head unit.

As for a laser carriage assembly, it appears you know more than I do. I didn't think the CD player had belts but your stereo may be different.

Try this... Next CD you make, burn it at the lowest speed (i.e. 4x).

It takes a while to burn, but it made a huge difference in my stock CD player. It was showing the same symptoms as you are describing. It will still skip if you hit a large bump, but always returns to playing in < 3 seconds.

I figure it has something to do with the fact that these CD players were designed in the late 80's. Today, you can burn CD's at a much faster rate (56x). Whether or not if this is the case, it seems to work really well.

Let me know how it goes...

I bought my vert in 96.

The stereo was a piece of **** then.

I wouldn't dick with it - I'd pitch it.

Buy a new player... they are much higher quality, offer much more (if you flashed out the money), and generally don't waste as much energy.

CD player original

Thanks for all the coments.I will like to know wich player radio comes with a face that will fit the opening og the old one , I want a discrete looking unit.
These players (pionneer) dint have any memory buffer for the bumps during driving, plus the laser units in general are made of arsenic -gallium and this is a not very stable material after the years the laser beam is wider and the reciver on the same unit cannot read the reflected data.
This unit has 2 belts one for unloading the cd and one to move the carriage along the cd.
I check with another retaired tech like me , first I will clean with alchool the lens , blow soft air in the unit , take all the ribbon connectors cleaned out and the reasmable the unit to see if impruves, next step is to change the carriage belt , next step if no impruve is to change the laser assamble , i have a use one from a broken display unit , then if nothing hapens I will consider a new unit.
Thanks

The vert had one of the first CD players in the car market.

Mine definitely had skip protection -- it would never skip in the early days.

I don't believe you will be able to replace the CD unit with anything aftermarket. When mine died, I just replaced it with a new single din cd/radio (no tape) player from Kenwood. It does not look as original as the pioneer, but when I put it in, I gained storage space.
