Convertable Issue

Hi all, Maybe someone here can help. I am trying to fix my convertable top motor. It will bring the top down but will not bring it back up. Any ideas on what might be wrong with it? Any questions I can answer to help isolate and fix, let me know. Thanks. It's an 89.

it could be something as simple as the switch being corroded... it works in one direction but not the other. A simple way to check would be to see if the motors get power when you try to put the top up... if they dont, the switch is your best bet, if they do, something inside the motor or regulator is toast. From what i've seen tho, the motors are pretty robust.

Unless you're trying to make the vert into a track car, or you just leave the top down almost all of the time, I wouldnt remove the motors. The top is a lot heavier than some would imagine with the integral roll bar and hard targa panel, and if you put it up and down a lot, doing it by hand will become quite the PITA. Plus, the motors are mounted relatively low, and the vert is already a lot heavier than the coupe, which makes it more of a cruising/relaxed car IMO. Sure, they can get up and go, and they handle nicely, but if you really wanted a light-weight, *****-to-the-wall handler, you probably would have gotten a coupe in the first place.
