convertable headrest speakers

I thought this was pretty cool when i got my 91 rx7 convertable. The car came with headrest speakers, which i thought was awsome. Since i didn't want to put up with the original cd player and speakers, i put some better and cool aftermarket speakers in. My headrest speakers are still factory. So when i turn up my cd player, those little speakers in headrest will crackle and pop, since they can't take the power thats going through them, making listening to music less enjoyable.
My question is, does anyone know the size of these speakers that are in the headrest?

It has generally been found to be more trouble than it's worth to put aftermarket speakers in there. If you can find some that sound good and won't blow your ears out from 3 inches, let me know then i can replace mine

To be honest if your running it through the factory amp then its probably the amp for those speakers causing the crackling and not the speakers themselves although i could be totally wrong. Mine too crackled until i bypassed the amp and used the rear channels on the deck for them. They sound great too. If someone did blow the speakers im told that on some of the miata websites theres a brand called clearwater speakers that are made specifically for miata headrests. I believe those are the same size as ours. If i am wrong someone please correct me. To me the headrest speakers are important in our cars because without them there isnt any sound coming from behind and to me thats the whole purpose of a nice stereo is surround full sound. I love my headrest speakers and wouldnt like it if they didnt work. But im picky
