controller link?
controller link?
i have a 1987 turbo II FC. occasionally there is a "clunk" sound that comes from the rear suspension. Ive driven other manual cars before and have never heard this clunk sound. i read on a website that i should replce the rear controller link. does anyone know what this is or has anyone wver done it? how hard is it and how much would it cost? thanks.
not sure what the controller link is but I recall hearing that many times that the clunking sound from the rear is due to shot diff mounts and/or worn bushings. Look up the parts fiche for your car www.iluvmyrx7.com
Do this test: Get the car moving in 1st gear. Pump the gas pedal. If you hear a thud coming from the back every time you pump the gas, that's a broken diff mount.
Common problem. About $60-80 for a new one (the competition mount is cheaper, and HIGHLY recommended). Changing it is a royal pain - you have to drop the whole rear subframe.
If your car passes that test clunk-free, you've got something else binding or hitting. The small dogbone links in the rear suspension frequently fail. Also make sure your exhaust isn't hitting the frame somewhere.
