Connector Question

Hey, is this connector for the battery gauge on the dash? It goes from the alternator toward the fuse box and turns into a larger harness leading back toward the firewall. If so, why is it so big of gauge wire? I was thinking of replacing my alternator wire while the engine was out, but saw the two cables joined together at the lug. That threw me off.

Its a 90 convertible. Thanks.

Never mind, I'm gonna abort this attempt. Apparently I looked into this before and HAILERS wrote this:

"If your talking about the large output wire on the alternator..............it's spliced into the wire that feeds your ignition switch. Cut that one off and say goodbye to starting your car or feeding anything other than the battery busses."
