Confused! 1987 wheel size!

I have about reached the end of looking and I think I wished I never started looking! lol Trying to find the right rim/tire width I can go with thats not going to rub the stock suspension or the fender. I thought it would be simple. Look on the forum that EVERYONE else has already asked.

The problem is some folks say this size will work, other say no. I am sure its because of everyones different setups. Could I get the right width that will work for an 87? I would like something that looks great but without the chance of rubbing. I do know I would like 17".

17 inch rims should work what you need to pay attention to is the width of the rim and the offset. If your going to buy new rims the place you buy them from should be able to tell you which 17 inch rims will fit with the proper width and offset.

With stock suspension or any strut/spring combo, 17x8 with a 30-40 offset should fit just fine as a "conservative" fitment. Any wider, then you may come close to hitting the shock/spring with the wheel or tire. For tire sizes, you should be able to run 225/45/17 all around or a 245/40/r17 in the rear if you want a staggered setup.

Could I get away with a 17X9 25 offset in the rear with 245 tires?

Yes. No problem at all, that is a great size for the rear.

This is 17x9 +24 all around with 235/40/17 in front and 245/45/17 in the rear. I'd recommend 245/40 or 255/40 however, or 235/40/17 all around.

And same wheels with 235/40/17 all around.

Would that be for stock suspension without rolling fenders? And of course I am offshore and with our internet connection, it blocks your pic you attached. Would you have a link to the picture?

Thanks

The car was lowered and no fender rolling was needed in the rear. The front needed close to 2 degrees of negative camber and a fender roll. At stock height you'd have no problems, but a 17x8 in the +30 range would fit without any issues ever.

I did run this front setup it with the stock style lowered suspension with very little negative camber and it just rubbed the fender liner over large high speed dips.

At stock heaight the 245/45 mint be better looking if you never plan to lower the car.

Oh and here is 245/45/17 all around on the same wheels. As you can see that did not work very well in front when lowered.

Thank you! Got my mind made up. Going with 17X8 +30 in front with 225/45 and 17X9 +25 in rear with 245/40.

Thank you! If only I had this guide when I first started looking! Glad to have bought within the recommended guidelines. Another week before my rims and tires come in. I will take pics and post when I get them on.

You do know that the 245/40's will be over 5/16" shorter than the 225/45's.
That's why most would go with the 255/40 as it is the same diameter as the 225/45.

This is the project with the older Mustang Bullit wheels on ( I believe 1993)..The newer Bullit wheels they manufacture are a different offset.I think these on my car are 17x8 with a 32offset.

And that is what I did. I did mention earlier 245 but instead I did buy 255/40 for the back. Thanks though
