Compression test results...

I got on kevin landers(rotary resurrection) website and saw how he said to do a compression test using a conventional tester. I got right at 90 PSI on both rotors, I understand this to be unexceptable and I an now going to start planning a rebuild or maybe just have it done, not sure yet. But would a compression this low cause the engine to not start at all, or do I have something else going on?

Engines with even 60s-70s will run. They will have issues but they WILL run.

90PSI is fine, just not ideal.

I've seen some pretty impressive compression increases by just letting the engine soak in MMO overnight.

a comrpession of around 90 should run fine really. it is somewhat low ,meaning the motor probably has 150K or more, or has been through alot

ive had a few different motors getting those numbers, and they run allright, alot more prone to flooding tho!

did u pull the shrader valve out of the checker and watch the bounces on each rotor?

if you used a conventional tester and it read 90 all around, after you add ambient pressure that puts you at 105psi.

I'm doing about 70psi all around and running...but that's it...

conventional? Do you mean a piston compression tester?

I got 90 on both rotors using a standard comp tester. Is it really higher?

I am very confused.

conventional as in the guage face starts at zero. If the guage face starts at 14.6, then it's already compensated.

Hmm, I've never thought of that, adding ambient. My gauge starts at zero, and my 'vert gets 120 on all faces :p

hehehe. I think I'll avoid adding ambiant though, it's 'cheating' since no one else does :p

*edit: Just found out the manufacturer is not too far from my house. "Howdy neighbor, could I borrow some oil?"

I've heard mixed things about putting MMO in your engine...I would do some research.

how would MMO increase the compression? it doesn't add metal.. it would only increase the numbers temporarily until the engine was run and the lubricants blown out of the engine..

Where are you getting this info from? I have seen you post it in 3 threads now and it does not make any sense what-so-ever. There is not 1 bar of ambient pressure in your engine. If the engine is reading 90psi then that is what the compression is, there is no adder for this number.

There is a "how to" on our website with a breakdown of the readings and their meanings. www.banzairacing.net

Ummm....there's 1 bar of ambient pressure any place there's air that has access to open atmosphere. That guage, starting at zero, is already reading 14.6 pounds of pressure. Sorry.

wrong! if the gauge is calibrated to read zero it is putting out 90 PSI, if it is calibrated to read 15psi and reads 105PSI it still only has 90PSI of compression....

as everyone sais, please do not post false statements on the forums.

Exactly my point, the compression gauge takes this into account. Do not tell people to add 14.6 psi to their compression readings, this will yield incorrect numbers.
