Component question

I'm recently a new owner to a 88 SE and had a question about an electical component located on the passenger side rear hatch strut. Coming from the B pillar is some wires that were sleeved to the body of the strut and ended up at the top of the body of the strut. They form a kind of "claimp" around the strut to stay there.

First What is this and what does it do? I searched the manuals and couldn't find it. Could it be something added from the previous owner. To met it seems like an antenna adaptation or something or maybe for the security system.

Is it Important? if not whats the easiest way to remove it along with the wiring.

Thanks in advance,
Dave

I think you are talking about the the "Cargo Room Light" its a factory installed option and they do kinda have the appearace of being an aftermarket item.

hope thats the answer you are looking for?.

You may be right, it is probably just missing a bulb. Either way its really cheesy looking and I don't really like having exposed contacts next to carpet or even an exposed bulb, so I think I'll just take it out since I really don't need it that much.

Thanks.
