Complete rotary virgin!!!

Waz up guys and girls? I have completely turned around from the norm (
formerly a BIG Nissan fan). I just piked up a 88 s4 gxl 2-seater. I love it so far! The rev-ability, the acessability, everything about it. The car I got has 165,xxx miles. Is there anything I need to be watching out for? It seems as though everything is fine with the car except for the driver window dosent work, and I've had to add about cup of coolant twice.

I just need to know what to look out for with a higher milage 2-rotor. Any help/advice would greatly be appreciated.

Welcome to the club. Do a 60k tuneup first, and check out Aaron Cake's site:
http://aaroncake.net/RX-7/newowner.htm

Downloading the FSM will help diagnose a lot of problems that you might encounter.

As far as the coolant goes, make sure there are no bubbles in the radiator.

Search and you will find much more information.

See if any coolant is getting into the oil pan or being burned (white sweet smelling exhaust). Also see if the coolant reservoir is under pressure when the engine's warm. A higher mileage rotary sometimes shows these signs when coolant seals start to go. Not meaning to scare you, though - could be just a leak, but do try to find where you're losing it. Also get the engine compression tested.

Nothing wrong with Nissan, but you'll find these cars are very special. Welcome!

The guy I bought the car from told me he just had a whole list of maintenance services done on the car. So if he had the coolant system flushed out, mabie it's just working the air pockets out.

Thanx for the welcome guys, I'm really excited about learning all i can about rotarys.

Welcome to the rotary world!

Be sure to check out the FAQ (at the top of the 2nd gen section), and I'm sure with a little bit of searching, you will find a link to the factory service manual.

Also, I don't mean to sound pessimistic, but I would suggest starting to save $2k at least for the inevitable eventual rebuild. you could get another 50k miles out of it, but I can tell you that my 2nd gen rx7 needed a rebuild when I bought it with 140k
