Cold Start Problem: Stalls After 3K Startup Unless Gas Pedal Pressed
ok so this just started happening a few days ago. when I go and start my rex it starts fine and dose the 3k warm up for about 5 seconds and then starts to drop down to one thousand rpm's and it will stay at 1k for mabey a second and then it will drop untill it dies but if I dont want it to die I can give it some gas and it will go up to 2k for mabey 4 seconds and then it is fine after that. it only dose this when the car has been sitting over night. also when driving it cold when I shift it sounds like it is miss fireing and it sputters but it still runs fine untill it warms up and it also has a slight ruff idle when it is cold. I was wondering if any body knows what the problem is.

I know the FSM recommends against it, but I adjusted my AFM 1/8 turn clockwise (richened the mixture) and it fixed mine (doing exactly the same thing.)
Only mine didn't do it cold (below 50 F) but only warm (50 - 80 F)
The 3 grand idle thing is usually the fast idle due to the thermal wax, adjustable on the back of the throttle plate.

Seeing as it just happened a few days ago, it might be the water thermowax isn't extending its piston to drive the cam off the roll pin.
See the FUEL SECTION of the online, free FSM for a picture of the above parts.
A thermowax can be checked out by pouring boiling water over it. It's piston should extend more than when it was still cold.
