cold start problem - already searched
I have an 88 N/A Vert. that has trouble starting when sitting overnight or has been sitting outside for 9 hours while at work, we're in AZ and 105+ during the day. It starts up right away after I get home and the car is at normal operating temp. I suspect the problem can be described as a "cold start" problem since the engine is technically cold even if its 105 degrees outside. I have a fuel cutout switch installed. I crank the engine then turn on the fuel switch with no results. I then turn off the switch thinking I may flood the engine and crank some more to clear it out. I do this for almost a minute or more letting the starter cool off between cranking. It will try to start more and more untill one rotor catches, then the other will catch about 5 sec later, then it will run fine. I smell gas sometimes it may be flooding but can't be sure. Since it makes absolutely no difference to turn on the fuel while cranking while its cold, I can't be sure its even getting fuel from the beginning. When its hot I can turn on the fuel switch and it catches immediately. I know the BAC valve is not working because when you turn on the A/C the idle speed doesn't increase and the car misses slightly at idle sometimes and it bucks a little when you coast after letting up on the gas while in gear. It runs smooth and powerfull when accelerating.
